Description

More people with mental health issues are ending up in jails, and attorneys are requesting more forensic evaluations for competency.  As a result, the wait list for DMH evaluation and treatment continues to grow and people with mental health issues are being held longer in jail.  SCDMH has developed an Admission Screening/Consultation process and other initiatives to identify appropriate cases for evaluation and move those cases efficiently through the evaluation process and to divert cases that do not need an evaluation to the appropriate treatment.  This presentation will explain how SCDMH is changing course using Pre-Screening Consultations, targeted mental health intervention in jails, and alternative site restoration.
