Commission approves appointments of Circuit Public Defenders

The SC Commission on Indigent Defense held a special meeting on Friday, February 10, 2012, at its offices in Columbia, SC, to consider recommendations of Circuit Selection Panels for the positions of Circuit Public Defender for the 1st, 4th and 12th Judicial Circuits. The 1st Circuit panel recommended the reappointment of Mark Leiendecker and the Commission approved his selection.  The 4th Circuit panel recommended the reappointment of Michael S. Stephens and the Commission approved his selection.  The 12th  Circuit panel recommended the new appointment of Scott P. Floyd and the Commission approved his selection. Terms for the three(3) positions will commence on March 1, 2012, and are for four (4) years.

The Commission previously approved the reappointments of Jack D. Howle, Jr.,  3rd Circuit, Douglas S. Strickler, 5th Circuit, D. Ashley Pennington, 9th Circuit, and Harry A. Dest, 16th Circuit, for four (4) year terms commencing January 2, 2012, based on recommendations of  the respective Circuit Selection Panels.
